What day is it today?

Today is the day when Shalini completes a 5K! Yeppers! I ran my usual 2 miles, and then decided to walk the rest of the distance. 5 minutes in, and I was ready to run again! And I did, right to the end of 3.1 miles. Jenni gave me some tips to go longer, and now I can! The key is to go slow. I took 41 minutes, though. This isn't ideal. Most athletes would do it in under 30 minutes. Once I get used to running this distance, I'll improve my mileage. But today, I'm happy! Thank you, Jenni!

Jenni and I are going to run a 5K race in April. We live close to each other. She has already done (atleast) one, and asked if I was up to it. Sure am! The race is Stupid Little 5K I just looked at the course photos, and boy, it has quite a few up-hills. But the view is beautiful.

Don't get scared! Those hills are on the 10 mile course. The 5k is suppose to be pretty flat.

And don't worry about speed, that will come with time. If you try to speed up now, all you'll get for your efforts is shin splints. I've cut 7 minute off my 3.5 route just by sticking to it and going slow.

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
