Make Nine Progress - 4 down!

Make Nine Progress - 4 down!

I'm not doing so great with the #2018makenine. I started out with this challenge in January and thought I should have no trouble with making NINE items. I mean, I am on track to making at least 100 items this year (currently at 80!). How hard could these 9 items be? Turns out, the issue is having to stick to the vision you had at the beginning of the year and carrying it out in a seasonally appropriate manner. It's either the wrong season, or I don't have perfect fabric or pattern to be making something. Sigh.

Let's review for a second what I had originally envisioned to be making -

Item #1 - Suede and sherpa vest = DONE
I made the Designer Stitch Ilse vest and love it. I wore it earlier this year and look forward to it in the fall and winter!

2. Mustard Straight Skirt - I wanted this one in mustard wool which I already have. The issue I'm having with this item is not having the perfect pattern with lining and facings included. I want this to be a nicely lined skirt with princess seams (panels?) and invisible zipper. I need to look harder! I also need to practice on regular fabric before cutting my nice wool. Hence the paralysis.

3. Swing linen top - I have the perfect organic chambray fabric from OrganicCottonPlus - this one. I won this in Sew Alongs and Sewing Contests challenge and am holding on to it in search of the perfect pattern with HEM FACINGS. I have a couple patterns in mind - LoveNotions Harmony and a Burda pattern. I have to double check the Burda but the Harmony does not have the hem facings and that means I'll have to hack them so I'm stalling on this.

4. Black Wrap Skirt - I have the perfect pattern - Wardrobe by me Wanda Wrap Dress. I don't have the fabric. Boo. I want black modal or similar.

5. Windowpane Shirt - DONE
Pattern used - Wardrobe by me Perfect Tunic. This is my single MOST USED tunic in my entire wardrobe. Black and white plaid print and rayon fabric just make the perfect combo that seems to go with everything! I wear this year round. So happy with this make!

6. Shirt Dress - I have both the pattern and the fabric for this one. Pattern I will be using is McCall 6696 shirtdress that I've made before. I will be eliminating the back gathering or making it a small pleat like I did before. The fabric I planned for this is are MANY! Blue stripe seersucker, sailboats shirting, chambray! I can't decide which to do first so this one sits. Hrm..

7. Blue chinos - These are getting nixed. I have some RTW blue stretch pants and they rarely see the light of day. They go with very very little in my wardrobe and are just screaming loud! If I make pants, they'll be stretch twill in a neutral gray or olive. Another issue is pattern and style of these. I never wear chinos. Not sure why I thought I'd like them if they were BLUE! I'm most likely making skinny pants or jeans in place of these.

8. Cargo Shorts - DONE
I made these for the Itch to Stitch blogtour and LOVE THEM! So much love for these shorts. They came out better than I expected. Pattern is extremely well done. So what if we're going into fall?! They're getting some wear right now before it gets too cool.

9. Harems - DONE
Another DesignerStitch item - Indu wrap pants. I made two pairs and wear them all the time! The elephant pair pictured here is starting to look worn. I am wearing them right now as I compose this post :-) Needless to say, this was an excellent make!

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
