It's time to sew Itch to Stitch


I am participating in the blog tour again this year. This is a time to sew Itch to Stitch patterns we've been meaning to make for long! I have had my eyes on Crystal Cove Cami since it released and the Angelia Shorts were on my #makenine2018! It was absolutely the easiest decision to participate in the blog tour and pick these 2 patterns. Itch to Stitch patterns are very well drafted, have precise yet detailed instructions. Kennis Wong is well respected in the industry for putting out top notch patterns. It is an absolute pleasure to sew ITS patterns!

One of the steps most are tempted to skip is the muslin. If you're been reading this blog, you know I am a fan of muslins -- proud member of Team Toile (a term coined by Sewing Vortex)! For my muslin I don't follow any finishing instructions and only do the main pieces of front, back, waistband (for shorts/pants), straps (for tops). This little step gives me all that I need to know to make a much better fitting final version. Occasionally, I have to do multiple muslins but as I learn and experiment, I have found out there are some adjustments I have to do to every pair of pants/shorts. I got very lucky this time around with both my muslins. My Crystal Cove muslin became one of my very wearable final! And the Angelia was absolutely PERFECT! No weird crotch wrinkles in sight. I was in absolute shock. This has never happened before.

The final result::

I made minor adjustments to the Crystal Cove and Angelia after the muslin phase. Crystal Cove was almost perfect but I thought I would prefer the back pieces to swing over my hips a bit more. It was catching on my hip a slight bit breaking that beautiful petal shape. I fixed this by adding to the back side seams. 

For the Angelia, the only thing I noticed was the tummy portion was a bit more fitted. I like a bit of breathing room ;-) To address this issue, I added to the side seam pieces and lengthened the waistband accordingly.



The fabric I used for my blue Crystal Coves is absolutely a dream! It is 100% Viscose from D&H Fabrics - Moonstone in blue by Atelier Brunette. My shorts were made from cotton ripstop fabric I obtained some time ago. I've been hoarding it in search of the perfect cargo pants or shorts pattern and Angelia was perfect! Similar fabric here on fabric.com

I love those shorts. You achieved a great fit. I don't think I have ever sewn ripstop fabric. I love the top also, especially in the blue fabric!

The Crystal Cove is one of my all time favourites and I love yours. That fabric from D&H fabrics is just lovely, and I would have chosen it, I like it so much. A lovely pair of makes!

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little.
