Itch to Stitch blog tour Day 2
Sewing community is such a vast space spanning multiple continents and what brings everyone together is their love for sewing. When someone in this community is hurting, sewists all over the world come together to make it better. Our much loved designer, Kennis Wong - owner of Itch to Stitch Designs, was robbed a couple of weeks ago leaving her with no way to run her business. This blog tour is promoting Itch to Stitch patterns to make up for some of the monetary loss so she can be back on her feet and produce top notch quality patterns again!
I picked up the Newport top in the recent sale and wanted to make a nice top for this blog tour. I'm also really feeling the velvets this time of the year. Stylish Fabrics is one of the sponsors of this tour and I picked up mauve velvet and charcoal ponte to make my outfit.
The pinky mauve color is probably my all time favorite color for nail paint but I rarely wear clothes in this color. I'm not entirely sure why because I love this so much and have been getting compliments since I made it.
The boat neckline is constructed with a full front and back facing and the overlapping at the shoulders creates this unique shape. I think it's very flattering on everyone. I used the 3/4 sleeve line which has a slight flare. For the next time, I think I'll flare it out more or draft a bell sleeve. If you've been reading this blog, you know I'm loving the statement sleeve trend.
The skirt is Lindy Petal Skirt and is available for free download on the website. This skirt has been on my sewing wishlist since it released! I finally got the chance to make it and am thrilled with the way it came out. One of my hesitations was making sure the fabric was the correct weight. I always worry about curved seams getting wavy when sewn but this charcoal ponte is the perfect weight. I'm so happy I went with this.
Now let's talk about the adjustments I made to both garments. I always have to do the petite adjustment so I took out 1.5" from the top at the lengthen/shorten line. Same amount was taken out from the skirt at the line as well. I also took in the hip curve to match my figure better and that was it. I added the buttons to the skirt just for some interest.
