Halfway through to my fitness goal!

Feeling pretty good this morning. I've been trying to get this extra weight off and making it half way through feels amazing. I have lost 15lbs! I feel like I can make it to the end! I've never lost this much weight before. It has taken a long time but initially I wasn't as strict about it. Since last 2 - 2.5 months I have been more focused on weight loss and am seeing great results. Hopefully the next 15 will go faster. Here's what I'm doing that is working. I will write it here so if I get back to being unmotivated or start gaining, I have a record of what works for me.
  • No sugar or artificial sweeteners. This means no soda of any kind, no sweetener in tea, no desserts except occasional treat. Occasional drinks are ok too.
  • Green tea 3 times a day.
  • Reduced intake of wheat products. This includes pasta, pizza, breads, etc. I initially made whole wheat substitutions for refined flour but found it still makes me bloated and hang on to the weight. As long as I reduce it to once a day, I see some results.
  • More protein. This is a big one for me as I tend to go back to my vegetarian lifestyle automatically. I started eating chicken last year. It fills me up and is a good source of protein. I just need to be consistent with it.
  • Portion size. I can eat whatever portion for lunch, it's usually ok. Dinners have to be very small or else I get bloated and feel too full. I have seen great progress since reducing dinner portions. Many days I've just been having watermelon for dinner and it's so satisfying and yummy! Again, occasional dinner out with family is ok.
  • I get bloated around middle of my cycle and also before my period. I drink plain warm water or warm water with lemon to reduce the bloat and it seems to work.
  • Most important of all, walking! I've been walking at least 1 hour brisk walk each day. If I can do it more, I do it. This really helps get the fat burning. I like having this time to myself and look forward to it every day. I take my music and tune out everything else and just enjoy walking.
So there's all my secret weapons to weight loss. Hopefully I'll keep going like this and reach my goal weight before the end of the year.

Itch to Stitch blog tour 2018

It's time to sew Itch to Stitch
I am participating in the blog tour again this year. This is a time to sew Itch to Stitch patterns we've been meaning to make for long! I have had my eyes on Crystal Cove Cami since it released and the Angelia Shortswere on my #makenine2018! It was absolutely the easiest decision to participate in the blog tour and pick these 2 patterns. Itch to Stitch patterns are very well drafted, have precise yet detailed instructions. Kennis Wong is well respected in the industry for putting out top notch patterns. It is an absolute pleasure to sew ITS patterns!

One of the wonderful sponsors D&H fabrics sent me this beautiful Moonstone in blue (Atelier Brunette) fabric that I absolutely love! More info on the fabric below -

Before I go on with the construction details, I want to mention that both the Crystal Cove Cami and Angelia Shorts are on a FLASH SALE for 24 hours only! TODAY ONLY (9/20), you can get Crystal Cove Cami for $8 and and Angelia Shorts

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2

(This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )

Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story!

This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour.

This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.
I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perfect blouse with a f…

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress

The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress (blogged here). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric!

How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them.

The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape.

Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice.

From a construction standpoint, I like that the pattern has a waist…
