New shorts and a coat for Aanya

This has been a productive weekend. Made these 2 new pieces for Aanya's wardrobe for school.   Gidget Shorts by Felicity Designs - Used white cotton twill and made the bias binding. Love these. Simplicity 2526 - I've used this pattern twice before, still like making this coat. Added a lining. Fleece outer, Minky contrast fabric and cotton lining.

Small Fry Skinny Jeans, Bimaa sweater and Tinkerbelle tutu!

Been sewing up a storm here. Small Fry Skinny Jeans ( Sewalong and pattern ) - My first pair of jeans, ever! It came out so well I surprised myself :) I upcycled one of DH's jeans which were way too relaxed fit for him. Win!! Details: I added hot pink lining and discovered how it looked like piping if it rolled out a bit. I got the silver button from India on one of my previous trips. Triple stitch on my machine with jeans thread. It gives definition to the stem. Buttons were in my stash for a while. Hearts on the back. I made a mistake while sewing the hearts. I had the pieces laid out incorrectly as they were supposed to be pointing towards each other. I reused the original waistband and hems. Top hem of pocket was also reused and is different from the pattern. It's a real half fly too! I love this jeans. The only thing I would change next time is pockets. Both front and back pockets are too long. The back pocket should end where the blue horizontal line is. The pat...

A lunch bag for me

So I was going to make a lunch bag for Aanya as she is starting preschool and found this tutorial , which made a perfect bag for me. Much in love with it. Pink Penguin Lunch Bag Everything is from stash! I didn't have the 809 Decor Bond interfacing but had lots of Pellon 70. It is a non fusible heavy weight interfacing and I stuck it to the fabric using quilting spray. Works like a charm!

New dresses

I made a few dresses and a hat for Aanya! She wore it on the 4th.  Summertime dress (3T) pattern by Birdifulstitches on etsy. Took loads of pics of her Good Deeds dress (3T) - It's not showing the true colors. The almost black trim is eggplant IRL, the hats of gnomes are eggplant as well. I used the gnome tag someone had sent me!! Oliver + S Free Bucket hat (Medium) She likes to play with the hat but doesn't want to wear it.  Inside - it's reversible but I think we'll just use the main side.  Maxi dress from a tutorial - Modeling pic! I've already shown it in the previous post. One last pic -  I've made DS a pair of shorts and a Kindle cover for my dad but don't have pics of those yet. Hopefully they'll make it into the next round of pics!

Maxi dress

I'm so proud of this!! I got the idea from Pinterest but couldn't find a pattern I liked enough. Ok, I really didn't wanna spend $10 for a simple dress pattern so I basically fiddled with a tutorial and made it my own. It fits DD really well, the form (which I LOVE) is a wee taller than DD.  I used my Hawaii fabric!! Figured it was better to use it up so I can see and enjoy it rather than collecting dust on the shelf. Still, I had a lot of anxiety cutting into this.  I think I posed this already but it looks like a different dress on the form! Fabric and Duck tape boxes for the craft room made with homemade modpodge

Quilt finished!

This is the Craftsy free Block of the month quilt. I finished it early this month. Really loving this.

Knitting finishes

I've been really slow at blogging though not slow at making stuff. I recently finished these 2 dresses for Aanya. Better post them here before she grows out of them!! Bloom by Georgie Hallam (finished Jan 2013)  This is done using the hand dyed yarn in the previous post. Love it.  Ridinghood by Tina Good (finished in 2012) My most favorite knitted project so far. It took forever! The skirt is nice and twirly. I am going to post more of my finishes here in 2013. I've made the new 52 Things in 52 weeks list which has all the projects I plan to do this year. It will keep changing though and I will update it regularly. Gotta run, Aanya is calling.
