Designer Stitch Synthia

It's always a special day when any Designer Stitch pattern I tested is released, but this release is extra special! Synthia top is a very pretty, feminine, and elegant top for work or any occasion. It is also extra special because it has a full page feature in the PatternPages magazine! What's more is my photo is in the magazine among many other Synthia testers. It was really fun to open up the PDF and see my photo in there :-)

I chose a pretty gray chiffon from fabric.com called 'smoke'. It is semi sheer so I had to wear a cami inside. I love how dainty the sleeves look in this fabric. The drape is perfect for this pattern.

It is no secret that I love ruffles LOL! These sleeve and neckline ruffles are done in a very smart way by Ann in which the whole thing is put together first and then sewn into the neckline in one step. Gives off a very nice finish.

I did my usual adjustments to the top which include shortening the top by 1.5", and also a 1.5" swayback adjustment. I love doing the swayback because it means I no longer get pooling of fabric behind my waist which I otherwise always get in RTW or straight out of the envelope.

The testers had a quick turnaround for this top because of the magazine publication coming out so I was only able to make one final version with one quick muslin. I have plans to make more in the future but with all my other sewing planned, it will be tough! I am very happy I made this one out of chiffon though because it's given me the perfect result with the ruffles. I have a tendency to keep my best fabrics for after pattern is finalized and out into production but that means I don't get to use any of it during testing. I'm trying hard to change that mindset! My test garments are what makes up majority of my current wardrobe so it makes sense to use my good fabrics! I've been very blessed to be able to test for such talented designers. As a result, sometimes I get to brag about being in a magazine!!

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
