Just been busy

I've been busy working so no posts in almost a week. Every single day there is some new drama at work. Work related, not personal but there are new issues cropping up all the time. We seem to have stabilized a bit today. But even this morning, both our test and production servers were down. Turned out one of the client's server was down that caused errors in both of our servers, but still. I was the one spending the time debugging them. Ugh.

Anyway, Mehul came down with stomach virus on Monday evening, so I was home with him Tuesday (and working as well). I ended up working until 10:30 in the night. And started back at 6AM Wednesday morning. Mehul finally went back to school on Thursday. He's fine now, but I'm concerned because he's lost yet more weight. It's lower than what it was at his 2 year checkup. I don't know what to do. He rarely eats his lunches but he eats breakfast & dinner with us, and snacks at school. We're trying different kinds of foods at home as well, but he just doesn't like school lunch. They don't usually allow us to pack his lunch and he has to eat what everyone's eating. He just doesn't like mac and cheese, lasagna, cold cut sandwiches, etc. He also doesn't like steamed veggies that they serve at lunch. This has been going on for more than 1 year. Initially he used to eat a little bit, but now he's not even touching it. I'm going to make a special request to the director to allow us to pack his lunch because he just can't afford to lose any more weight. If he doesn't eat that as well, then we'll come up with something else.

We learned a few weeks ago that our good friends Maneesh & Monika (whom we jokingly called M&M) are getting divorced. They had only been married 4 years, and have one toddler girl, G, and another on the way. We had no idea that they were having problems so it was a big shock. Maneesh has moved out and left her pregnant and miserable, with a toddler to take care of. I'm sure moving out was her idea too, but it would have been better if she had someone else with her to take care of the girl when she needed. One day she called me from work, G was crying inconsolably in the background. She was sick and Monika had to take her to work because there was no backup! The daycare wouldn't take her and there was no one else to take care of her. She couldn't work from home because Maneesh had taken the laptop, the PC (yes, both), the modems, phone and everything with him and left her without any way of calling someone in case of an emergency! I just hate him rightnow. She had called to inquire about getting a wireless connection, cell phone and landline for the apartment. With DH's guidance, she has been able to get a new laptop (that she's loving) and a phone. She's coming this weekend to get the softwares installed on the laptop. I repeatedly asked her to move in with us for some time, but last week her mom arrived from India and she says she's fine.

I need a quick and easy Dessert recipe for an upcoming GTG in 2 weeks. If you have any, I'd love to have it! Have a great weekend.

Quick and easy:
Quick Trifle
1 store bought angel food cake, cut into cubes
2 boxes instant pudding, prepared as package directed
1 container cool whip
fresh strawberries or peaches (sliced)
In a bowl, add a layer of angel food cake, a layer of pudding and a layer of fresh fruit; add another layer of cake, pudding and fruit, top with cool whip.

It's quick, easy, and light!

Sorry to hear about your friend....

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
