Love Notions Lyric Dress
The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress (blogged here). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric!
How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them.
The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape.
Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice.
From a construction standpoint, I like that the pattern has a waist dart and a bust dart so it gives a better fit. There are darts in the back bodice as well even though they are nearly invisible in the picture above! I am getting better at doing darts :) I love the way the neck binding finishes off the front placket. It gives a really nice finish on the inside.
The pattern went through multiple versions while testing to dial the fit just right. I love where the V neckline hits. The dress has POCKETS! They are wider in the final version.
As of the day before the release which is when I'm writing this blog post, I have another version in progress - blue & white gingham with red buttons! It is looking very summary! All I have left to do is buttonholes and buttons. If I get photos done in time, I will add them to this post or do another quick post this weekend! I'm very excited for this dress and hope you are, too!
