Brunch Blouse by Patterns for Pirates

Brunch Blouse by Patterns for Pirates

New release by P4P - Brunch blouse. It has blouse and dress options, various sleeve options, and a henley placket that is optional. It is a really quick sew for a woven dress. I made a dress and a top during the testing phase and could not be happier with both!

I made no major adjustments to the pattern apart from my usual length measurements. I'm 5'0 and Judy designs for 5'5 so I usually have to take out 2.5" from dresses, 1-1.5" from tops. In the dress, I took out 1" above the bust dart and 1.5" below the waist. Since I've been sewing P4P for some time now, I know where to make my adjustments. The key when taking out or adding length is to do it in multiple places and then to smooth the curves.

This fabric was a purchase from fabric.com a while back. I loved it when I saw it but was totally stumped on what to use it on! It had to be a simple enough pattern so it would let the fabric shine. Dolman sleeves meant I wouldn't have to manipulate the fabric much at all. It was fate!

Let's talk about the pattern. Construction is very straightforward with no tricky parts. I guess the trickiest thing for a newbie would be the curved hem but that's not hard to do. I serge once at the bottom and then iron and turn to the wrong side. Easy peasy and comes out looking great.

If you see the back of the dress, you'll notice there is a center back seam. Why is that so great? Because it provides fitting opportunities, that's why! If you have a swayback, or if you just have a larger than average behind, then you have noticed fabric pools at the waist in the back. This seam provides an opportunity to shape it just right for you. I do have a swayback and see, no pooling!

The Hi-Lo hem on this is very cute detail. It is subtle yet impactful.

In the top version I made, I chose to do short cuff sleeves. There is a cute little button tab that I just love. Another one of those clever little details that add a RTW touch.

I'm also sporting SOS pants made in Ponte knit from Joanns.  They were made as part of my Spring/Summer capsule I showcased on the blog earlier in the summer. They are an essential part of my everyday wardrobe.

This dots fabric is also from fabric.com. It is unfortunately no longer available but several others in the line are! It is a Crepe de chine so it is light and airy, but not sheer by any measure! Perfect choice for this blouse.

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
