Latest happenings

I've been a little obsessed with nails lately. It's largely due to youtube. There's so many awesome ideas to try out it's hard to decide which ones first. Every night Aanya and I sit down and watch a few (or more) nail videos and talk about which ones we like the most. Polka dots and flowers win pretty much every time. Add glitter and you've got a true winner! We're both such girly girls. My friends used to tell me I very much needed a daughter and how much fun it could be. A little bit of pink was way overdue in this house. When we went for the 20wk u/s I was so beyond happy to find out we were having a girl. I would have been happy either way and had fully prepared myself for another boy but we were thrilled it was a girl. Mehul and Aanya get along well and have enough in common to keep each other busy. Life is good!

On to the nails :)

First there were wraps. I had another one before this but don't have a picture of it. It's Jamberry. These wraps stayed on my nails for 4 weeks! They are super strong and when I removed them my nails were longer than I've ever had them. It's like they made my nails stronger.

Crazy long nails. I was loving the length but one broke and it was difficult to type with this length. I enjoyed it for a week and then trimmed to a manageable size. Here's a few Gradient tutorials on youtube.

Leopard nails. There's tons of tutorials on this as well.

Black and White dots. I got some dotting tools and brushes from ebay for cheap.

And my current one. I used some striping tape for creating the lines. It looks great and is my current fave. I like that it's sophisticated enough for work and is still fun.

These are the only nail pics I have on my phone. Now I'm trying to decide what to do next. Flowers probably :)

Since I have it uploaded, here is the latest quilt in progress. Block design is based on One Block Wonders book. The block design is the same hexagonal shape but the fabric cut makes it different. The brilliant and unique way of cutting the fabric makes these kaleidoscopic patterns automatically. Blocks have been half sewn at this stage to make placement easier. Once I have all of them completed and am happy with the placement I'll start sewing in columns. This will be a queen size quilt for our bed.

Fun! I love the slanted teal tips with the white dots. I haven't tried much nail art yet, but I do try to post my manicure each week in the sidebar of my blog. I can't believe Aanya is so big now! And how are our boys about to be 10??!!! Can't we make it stop?

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
